Max Strasser is a journalist based in Cairo and Washington.  He is currently the news editor at Egypt Independent, the English-language sister paper of Al-Masry Al-Youm, Egypt's leading newspaper.

Max also writes about Egypt for an international audience. His work has appeared in The Christian Science Monitor, Foreign Policy, TheAtlantic.com, The Nation and elsewhere. During college he interned at The New Yorker and Time Magazine's Jerusalem bureau. He is the 2008 recipient of the Alexander Kendrick fellowship from the Overseas Press Club.

Max grew up in Montclair, New Jersey and studied history and politics at Oberlin College. His interests include human rights, imperial history, and media. He speaks decent Egyptian Arabic and passable Spanish and German.
